Suspect in Florence shooting death arrested in Florida

Police in St. Petersburg, Florida have apprehended a man suspected of shooting and killing Daniel L. Darden at the Walnut Creek Apartments on Shenandoah Drive in Florence on Friday, Jan. 15.

The suspect, Robert A. Pence, from Taylor Mill, was apprehended Tuesday by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Apprehension and Surveillance Unit.

Florence Police have released the following information regarding the shooting and the apprehension of the suspect:

On 01-15-21 at 2:51pm, Florence Police officers were dispatched to Walnut Creek Apartments in reference to reports of gunshots heard in the parking lot and a male lying on the ground.  Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from gunshot wounds lying in the parking lot.  Florence EMS transported the victim to St. Elizabeth Hospital Florence for treatment of his injuries.  This victim, Daniel L. Darden, 22 years old, of Florence, KY, was pronounced deceased at St. Elizabeth Hospital Florence.

The Florence Police Department is investigating this as a murder scene and is asking anyone who witnessed or has any information on this event to contact them department.

Through investigation, the Florence Police Investigative Unit developed a suspect in this murder case.

 A warrant was obtained on the suspect for murder and three counts of wanton endangerment 1st degree.  Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Apprehension and Surveillance Unit apprehended the suspect, Robert A. Pence, 18 years of age from Taylor Mill, KY, on 01-19-21 in St. Petersburg, FL for this warrant. 

Robert A. Pence is currently lodged in Pinellas County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Kentucky, to answer to these charges.  The Florence Police Department would like to thank the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the Taylor Mill Police Department for their assistance in this case.
