Noted Northern Kentucky physician and politician Dr. Floyd Poore passed away Tuesday.
Dr. Poore was widely respected as a physician and by those on both sides of the aisle as a political figure. In 1991, he ran for governor of Kentucky in the Democratic Primary and ran for Congress in 1992.
Hundreds of condolence messages poured in on social media as word of Dr. Poore’s passing spread Tuesday evening.
Dr. Poore’s daughter, State Rep Kim Moser, shared these thoughts on her father to her Facebook page Tuesday evening :
“It is with profound sadness that we said goodbye to a great, great man today.
My father, Dr. Floyd Poore, lived a life so full it is hard to narrowly tailor this post. He was generous, loving and passionate about his family, patients and his community. He loved politics and quizzed us on current events as kids.
His word was his bond. He taught us to live life to it’s fullest, to never be afraid to take chances, to explore the world, to be caring people, to be honest and work hard. His smile and laughter filled a room, and he never met a stranger.
He loved to sing, travel and explore, one of his favorite sayings being, “expand your horizons.” My siblings and I have such tremendous gratitude for the life he led, the advice he freely shared, the example of hard work and love of family and friends that we were blessed to experience.
His humble beginnings on a farm in Flingsville KY framed his work ethic.
His love for us, my mother and our love for him created the close-knit and fiercely protective family that we are. He was so proud of his 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was welcomed into heaven today by my beautiful mother, his parents and siblings. We will all miss him tremendously.
I am so grateful that he is my dad. A celebration of his life will be held at a date TBD in the late spring when we can safely gather to honor him. We hope to collect wonderful stories from friends and family. If he touched your life in a positive way, please reach out to us. The Commonwealth lost a great man today.
“Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23.”
A formal obituary, with more detailed information on the life of Dr. Poore, will be shared when it is available.
