The KYTC will begin a Routine maintenance project Today to clean and paint the Brent Spence Bridge

Projected expected to last until mid-November will include lane closures, changes to traffic flow – delays are expected

Bulldog Report

The Brent Spence Bridge is a major thoroughfare for both local and national traffic, connecting two states that are critical to the movement of people, goods, and services. The bridge carries I-71 and I-75 traffic over the Ohio River and has four lanes of traffic on each of the upper and lower decks.

Beginning March 1, 2021, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will manage a routine maintenance project to clean and paint the bridge. The project, which is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 15, 2021, will require various lane closures on the bridge, as well as the closure of several ramps that provide access to the bridge.

Expected Traffic Changes for Monday, March 1, weather permitting:

Beginning at 8 p.m., the two westernmost lanes of travel on I-71/75 northbound across the Brent Spence Bridge will be closed. The lane closures will begin on I-71/75 northbound just north of the Fifth St. exit ramp in Kentucky and extend to the I-71/75 split in Ohio.

This travel pattern will remain in place throughout Phase 1 of the maintenance project. The two easternmost lanes (the two right lanes as you are heading northbound) will remain open.

In addition, at approximately 8 p.m., the on-ramp to I-71/75 northbound from Fourth St. in Covington will be closed and will remain closed throughout the duration of the maintenance project.

  • Note: The John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge between Cincinnati and Covington is closed entirely to vehicular traffic for a lengthy restoration project.
