A new poll from the Washington Post showed disastrous numbers for incumbent President Joe Biden, who is now 10 points behind former President Donald Trump in in the latest measurement of the US electorate.
The 80-year-old president’s approval rating stands at about 37 percent, similar to where it was in May, but five percentage points lower than it was in February.
Biden’s disapproval figure is 56 percent. The poll also asked whether, in retrospect, voters approve or disapprove of the job Trump did while in office.
Forty-eight percent say they approve and 49 percent say they disapprove. When he left office in January of 2021, Trump’s approval was closer to 38 percent.
The poll’s matchup of the two likely candidates showed Trump polling ahead of Biden by 10 percentage points – 52 to 42 – among registered voters.
The Post attempted to explain Trump’s apparent edge over Biden, writing that ‘the unusual makeup of Trump’s and Biden’s coalitions in this survey, suggest it is probably an outlier.
The results of the poll also arrive after an especially-gaffe ridden week for Biden, who on Saturday night butchered a speech he was delivering to the CongressionalBlack Caucus.

Biden first pronounced rapper LL Cool J’s name wrong, before referring to the performer as ‘boy,’ a term widely considered to be derogatory within the black community.
Trump appears to be coasting along a smooth path toward the GOP nomination. He is favored by 54 percent of Republicans, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has dropped from being favored by 25 percent of Republicans to just 15 percent since May.
The man who was, at one time, thought to be the only figure in the Republican Party who could take down Trump has, according to one recent Fox poll fallen 47 percentage points behind him.
Despite facing 91 felony counts across four indictments, Trump’s numbers across polls are not budging. In the WaPo poll, 53 percent of respondents said he is being held accountable under the law as anyone else would be, but 40 percent – including three-quarters of Republicans – say he is being unfairly victimized.
When asked a similar question about President Biden regarding the recently launched impeachment inquiry led by House Republicans, 58 percent of respondents said he is being held accountable fairly. Thirty-two percent said he is being unfairly targeted by political opponents.
The current resident of the Oval Office is also ailing in his policy record. Biden has spent many of the last several weeks touting his signature economic plan, ‘Bidenomics.’ But his earned approval rating on his handling of the economy has plummeted to 30 percent – the lowest of his presidency.
Some 75 percent of Americans believe the economy is ‘not so good,’ or ‘poor,’ according to the poll. A whopping 87 percent of Americans say that gas and energy prices are ‘not so good’ or ‘poor.’ And 91 percent of people say the same about food prices.
A plurality of respondents (44 percent) said they are not as well of financially as before Biden took office, while 39 percent said they are in about the same position, and 15 percent said they are better off.
